About Basso Vox
Basso Vox is a boundary-defying duo that reimagines the expressive possibilities of the double bass and bassoon in chamber music. Featuring two acclaimed soloists, double bassist Nina Bernat and bassoonist Eleni Katz, Basso Vox brings a distinctly vocal sensibility to both original works and inventive transcriptions, revealing the rich lyrical qualities of instruments not often associated with singing lines. Their name, derived from the Latin for “bass voice,” reflects their mission to showcase the expressive depth and beauty of the lower register.
Recent and upcoming engagements include performances at Tippet Rise, the Charlottesville Chamber Music Festival, Artist Series Concerts of Sarasota, Concerts by the Pond, Music at Evergreen, and the Rites of Spring Music Festival. Originally from Iowa City, Iowa, Bernat and Katz began collaborating after each won the Concert Artists Guild Victor Elmaleh Competition and joined the Concert Artists Guild roster, quickly establishing themselves as one of chamber music’s most distinctive emerging ensembles.
