This week’s Discovery Design Time celebrates culture and tradition with Decorating Dreidels, a 25 Days of Discovery-themed session all about the classic Hanukkah game. Guests will learn how the dreidel works like a spinning die — with each of its four Hebrew letters determining whether a player takes, gives, or passes on the pot of gelt.
Guests will decorate their own dreidel with paint pens, then put it to use playing a full round of the game with gelt (coins) of their own. Along the way, they’ll learn the meaning behind each symbol — Nun, Shin, Hey, and Gimmel — and how each roll shapes the game.
Guests will build new vocabulary like dreidel, Shin, Nun, Hey, Gimmel, and Hanukkah, while exploring a cultural tradition through hands-on play.
Discovery Design Time is a weekly program held every Thursday at Discovery Center at Murfree Spring — each session features a new theme and activity, so guests can join again and again for a fresh hands-on art experience.
