This week’s Discovery Design Time picks up needle and thread for Burlap Tapestry, a Fall on the Farm-themed session exploring the age-old craft of sewing. Stitching has supported humans for generations — from mending clothes and reducing fabric waste, to creating fine art tapestries, to even helping doctors heal the body — and guests will get hands-on practice with the fundamentals.
Guests will practice several embroidery techniques on burlap hoops, including the running stitch, stem stitch, back stitch, and split stitch, building confidence with needle and yarn one stitch at a time.
Guests will build new vocabulary like embroidery, running stitch, stem stitch, back stitch, and split stitch, while strengthening hand-eye coordination through fiber art.
Discovery Design Time is a weekly program held every Thursday at Discovery Center at Murfree Spring — each session features a new theme and activity, so guests can join again and again for a fresh hands-on art experience.
