About

Vaudeville impresario Jay Bragg presents the second annual “Voodoo in New Vaudeville,” a Halloween night of music, mischief and mayhem at Rudy’s Jazz Room.

A third-generation entertainer whose grandparents performed together on the vaudeville circuit in the 1930s, Bragg has spent more than two decades onstage developing his own modern take on one of America’s great entertainment traditions. His acclaimed New Vaudeville productions revive the spirit of the classic variety show with live music, theatrical storytelling and an ever-changing cast of specialty performers — from dancers and magicians to jugglers, stilt walkers and sword swallowers.

For “Voodoo in New Vaudeville,” Bragg and his New Vaudevillians venture into the darker side of jazz and blues, where New Orleans mysticism, enchantment and black magic weave their way through a night of true variety entertainment. Expect vintage showmanship, eccentric characters, theatrical surprises and the slightly dangerous unpredictability that made old-school vaudeville impossible to look away from.

Bragg’s New Vaudeville is deeply personal as well as theatrical. His grandparents, Ernie and Ursula, met while performing together in New York vaudeville in the early 1930s, and music from their original act still survives in Bragg’s contemporary productions — connecting nearly a century of family entertainment history with a new generation of audiences.

After launching “Voodoo in New Vaudeville” in Nashville in 2025, Bragg brings the production back for its second year, this time to Rudy’s Jazz Room.

It’s the mystical intersection of the darker side of joy: the same New Vaudeville polish, pointed somewhere more dangerous.
