Born July 6, 1951 in Detroit, Charlie Hill became the first Native stand-up comedian to perform on national U.S. television with a 1977 appearance on The Richard Pryor Show. He wrote for television (including Roseanne), co-produced and hosted a Showtime special, and was the subject of a PBS documentary; he received multiple community and diversity awards and died on December 30, 2013 from non-Hodgkin lymphoma.
